RAGS TO RICHES RUSSIAN ARTIST
Cupid’s arrow pierced the heart of several bidders who competed for this beautiful portrait of a Young Girl by Alexei Harlamoff, selling for £6,000 against an estimate of £2,000-£3,000.
Harlamoff was born into serfdom in Russia in 1840 but found fame and fortune in Paris painting portraits, where he became a prominent and influential member of the international art scene.

All 314 lots of frames sold in this sale, most of them at prices way beyond their estimates. The highest was for this 19th century frame – a work of art in its own right – which made £1,500.
